There is something about driving up the California Coast that never gets old – the rolling hills covered in a multitude of color, all of which eventually meet the edge of the world, to be kissed by the shore over and over…it’s remarkable, really. Always leaving me in awe of God’s glory.
Big Sur is actually the destination of the very first trip James and I went on together as a married couple! The first time we drove along that coast, we were both absolutely amazed at the views we were accompanied with.
We stayed at the cutest little place nestled in the heart of the town, right off the California 1 Highway, called Big Sur River Inn. It was a charming Inn with the cutest hotel rooms and a restaurant with some of the best food we’ve had along the coast (highly recommend stopping here to grab a bite to eat if you ever drive through the area!!)
One of the most “must see” places in Big Sur is McWay Falls, which you have probably heard of, given its huge popularity. And it definitely doesn’t disappoint. You can’t miss this stop on your way through Big Sur, given the obvious crowds and lines of parked cars that accompany this coastal gem.
You will experience stunning views similar to this:
And thanks to James’s droning skills, we got to capture some unique angles of this incredible spot.
Another “must-see” spot is the Bixby Bridge. I felt like I was dreaming when we stood on the cliff next to the bridge and looked out over the horizon at this:
There are quite a few different spots you can pull over and catch views of this breathtaking spot.
Big Sur is unique – all of it is spread out along the California 1 Highway, so you can’t miss anything as you drive through. Big Sur’s rugged coast provides some of the most brilliantly beautiful and undeniably serene experiences ever. It’s a place that can only truly be appreciated through personal experience. No words can truly capture its grandeur.
I would love to hear some of your favorite places in Big Sur! Share with me!
xoxo
